Education Statement

Connection, Adaptability, and Student Growth

My teaching philosophy centers around building meaningful connections with students first. Before students can fully engage in learning, they need to feel safe, respected, and understood within the classroom environment. Through my student teaching, internship experiences, and capstone research, I began recognizing how strongly trust and connection influence student engagement, risk taking, and willingness to grow. Many students are not disengaged because they do not care, but because they feel overwhelmed, unsupported, or unsure of how to move forward. Because of this, I strive to create a classroom culture rooted in compassion, patience, flexibility, and mutual respect. I believe every student can learn when instruction is adaptable to their individual needs and when they are given the structure and support necessary to succeed.

Building Flexible and Inclusive Learning Environments

My curriculum is designed around variability, accessibility, and reflective growth. Students enter the classroom with different experiences, interests, skill levels, cultural backgrounds, and learning needs, so my teaching approach must remain flexible enough to support all learners while still maintaining meaningful expectations. Through both traditional and digital media, students develop technical skills, creative problem solving abilities, and confidence in their own thinking process. My capstone research further reinforced the importance of reflection as an active part of learning rather than simply a closing activity. By embedding structured reflection and revision into the creative process, students learn how to analyze challenges, make intentional changes, and continue improving their work over time. Using approaches rooted in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and inclusive lesson planning for English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with disabilities, I aim to cultivate an art classroom where students feel supported in both their artistic and personal growth.
